1.20.010 Purpose.

This chapter is adopted for the purpose of accounting for the personal belongings of individuals processed at the Marion County corrections facility. [Ord. 1064 § 1, 1997.]

1.20.020 Definitions.

An individual is “processed” when the person is brought inside the secure perimeter of said facility.

“Inventory” is the inspection and recording of personal property to be kept at the Marion County corrections facility or the Marion County sheriff’s office.

“Large personal items” are those defined by the policy as being too large or cumbersome for storage, or defined by other factors, that fall outside the policy limits for corrections facility inmate property storage, and are returned to the arresting/transporting officer. [Ord. 1064 § 2, 1997.]

1.20.030 Inventory of contents.

All individuals who are processed at the Marion County corrections facility shall have their personal belongings inventoried in order to account for the individual’s property. A list of contents shall be made a part of each individual’s corrections facility record. [Ord. 1064 § 3, 1997.]

1.20.040 Establishment of procedures.

The Marion County sheriff is authorized to establish procedures for inventorying the contents of personal belongings of individuals processed at the Marion County corrections facility pursuant to MCC 1.20.030. The Marion County sheriff is also authorized to establish procedures for inventorying large personal items which cannot be stored at the corrections facility. 1.20.050 Exception.

Individuals who are brought inside the secure perimeter for only photographs and/or fingerprinting shall be searched, have their personal property secured and their money counted. [Ord. 1064 § 5, 1997.]
