2.16.010 Office created.

There is created and established in and for the city an office to be known and designated as street superintendent. This office is appointed by the mayor and duties performed by the maintenance superintendent unless otherwise established by city council. (Ord. 988 § 1, 2007; Ord. 313 § 1, 1949).

2.16.020 Duties.

The duties which are imposed upon him/her as street superintendent shall be to furnish and attend to the laying of all sidewalks and crosswalks, causing their construction to comply with the established grades of the city, and where the laying or the building of the same is at the expense of the city it is obligatory for the superintendent to perform that labor, the city bearing the expense of the material. He/she shall carefully examine into the condition of all streets, alleys, bridges, sidewalks, and crosswalks, and report the same from time to time as occasion may require, to the committee on streets, as also what repairs, cleaning, or other work may be needed, and shall see that no obstructions are allowed on any street or alley within the corporate limits of the city. In case of contract work upon any street or alley within the corporate limits of the city, it is the duty of the street superintendent to so far superintend such work as will best protect the interest of the city. 2.16.030 Appointment – Removal.

It is the duty of the mayor to appoint one suitable person street superintendent, subject to the confirmation of the city council. The appointed person is subject to the employment policies outlined in the personnel policy manual and the duties described in the job description of the maintenance superintendent. (Ord. 988 § 1, 2007; Ord. 313 § 3, 1949).

2.16.040 Compensation.

The street superintendent shall receive as compensation for his services, from month to month, such sum or sums as the council may provide by resolution or otherwise set in the city budget, and he/she shall be paid by funds drawn at the same time, but out of the street fund, as that of the city administrator, clerk-treasurer and chief of police. (Ord. 988 § 1, 2007; Ord. 313 § 4, 1949).
