2.12.010 Office created.

There is created and established in and for the city, an office to be known and designated as chief of police. (Ord. 312 § 1, 1949).

2.12.020 Duties.

The duties which are imposed upon the chief of police, and which he is required to perform as such officer, other than those required by general law, are as follows: to see that the laws of the state of Washington, within the city, are duly and legally observed, and to cause arrests for any breach thereof; and likewise, to see that all ordinances are duly and legally observed, and to arrest or cause to be arrested any and all persons found or known to be violating or committing a breach of any ordinance of the city, and to maintain the peace, good government, and welfare of the city, and to do any and all other acts and things necessary or proper for the best interests, welfare and peace of the city. In all matters of fumigation he shall be under the direct supervision and orders of the health officer of the city. (Ord. 312 § 2, 1949).

2.12.030 Appointment.

It is the duty of the mayor to appoint one suitable person chief of police, subject to the confirmation of the city council, and to remove him at any time when in his judgment the interests of the city may require such action, and the mayor may also suspend his services for any period he may deem his services not required. (Ord. 312 § 3, 1949).

2.12.040 Oath – Bond.

The chief of police shall qualify by taking the oath of office required to be taken by all other officers of the city, and by giving bond to the city in the sum of $1,000, to be approved by the city council, conditioned that he will faithfully discharge the duties imposed upon him by this chapter. (Ord. 312 § 4, 1949).

2.12.050 Compensation.

The chief of police shall receive as compensation for his services, from month to month, such sum or sums as the council may provide by resolution or otherwise, and the salary may be increased or diminished by the council by resolution or otherwise, while he is engaged in the performance of services as the chief of police for the city, and he shall be paid by warrant drawn at the same time and on the same fund as that of the city clerk-treasurer. (Ord. 312 § 5, 1949).
