All grades and heights to be fixed in the City shall be reckoned and computed from the base datum plane, which plane is established as the base of the City. (Ord. 45 § 1, 1910)

12.04.020 Base plane – Location.

The top of two gas pipes driven side by side to a depth of about two feet below the walk and situated about five-tenths of a foot from the southeast corner of Alder and Second Street, in the City, which gas pipes shall be considered for all purposes of measurements in connection with grades and elevations in the City to be 100 feet above the base datum plane as is described in FMC 12.04.010.
