2.20.010 Contract for legal services.

Legal services for the city shall be provided by one or more contracts with an attorney or law firm admitted to the practice of law in the state of Washington, which contracts may be for (1) general legal services; (2) prosecution of matters in municipal court; (3) specific legal matters on a specialized nature on an as-needed basis.  (Ord. 1230 §1(part), 1998)

2.20.020 Negotiation and approval of contracts for legal services.

All contracts for legal services shall be negotiated by the mayor and approved by the city council, provided, that the mayor may contract for interim general legal services and for prosecution of municipal court matters pending approval of a contract by the city council.  (Ord. 1230 §1(part), 1998)

2.20.030 Duration and termination of legal services contracts.

A.    All contracts for legal services shall be for an indefinite period and shall provide for their termination on not less than thirty days notice by the contracting attorney or law firm.

B.    The mayor shall have the sole authority to terminate contracts for legal services, which termination shall be on thirty days notice to the contracting attorney or law firm.  (Ord. 1230 §1(part), 1998)

2.20.040 Duties.

The contract attorney or law firm shall work under the direction of the mayor and shall have the same duties as an appointed attorney as provided by statute, including but not limited to attending council meetings as required, drafting and approving ordinances, contracts and other legal documents, advising city officers on legal matters and handling law suits as directed by the mayor subjected to approval of the city council.  (Ord. 1230 §1(part), 1998)
