2.30.010 Office created.

There is created the office of Police Chief. (Ord. O-97-35 § 1).

2.30.020 Duties.

The Police Chief, under the direction of the City Manager, shall serve as the chief law enforcement officer of the City. (Ord. O-97-35 § 2).

2.30.030 Appointment – Removal.

The Police Chief shall be appointed by the City Manager with the concurrence of the City Council, and may be removed from office by the City Manager with the concurrence of the City Council. The Police Chief may be appointed pursuant to an interlocal agreement with another city or with King County. The Police Chief shall serve at the pleasure of the City Manager unless otherwise provided by contract or interlocal agreement. (Ord. O-99-83 § 1; Ord. O-97-35 § 3).

2.30.040 Noncivil service position – Exception.

The person holding the position of Police Chief on the date of passage of the ordinance codified in this chapter shall continue to serve subject to, and with rights accorded by, the civil service ordinances of the City, if any. (Ord. O-97-35 § 4).

2.30.050 Salary.

The salary for the position of Police Chief shall be set at the rate provided for in the annual budget* adopted by the City Council or as provided for by contract or interlocal agreement. (Ord. O-97-35 § 5).

2.30.060 Compliance with applicable laws.

The Police Chief shall serve pursuant to the ordinances and regulation of the City and any applicable State and federal statutes. (Ord. O-97-35 § 6).
