CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION FOR POLICE

2.65.010 Created.
Pursuant to the authority conferred by Chapter 13 of the Laws of 1937 of the State of Washington, there hereby is created a City Civil Service Commission to exercise the powers and perform the duties established by such state law in connection with the selection, appointment and employment of police. As provided under state law, the positions of Police Chief and Assistant Police Chief shall be exempt from coverage by the Civil Service Commission. 2.65.020 Composition – Duties.
Such Commission shall be composed of three members who shall be appointed by the City Manager and who shall serve without compensation. The qualifications, powers and duties of the Commission herein created shall be as prescribed by Chapter 41.12 RCW (Civil Service for City Police), as now or hereafter amended, which is hereby incorporated herein by this reference. 2.65.030 Terms of the Commissioners.
The term of office for Commissioners shall be six years. Commissioners shall remain in office until their successors are appointed and confirmed. Vacancies occurring otherwise than through the expiration of terms shall be filled for the remainder of the term of the Commissioner being replaced. Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner as original appointments.
Upon request of a Commissioner, the City Manager may make a temporary appointment to replace a Commissioner who will be absent from meetings for a prolonged period. (Ord. 2478 § 1, 2008; Ord. 2395 § 1, 2005; Ord. 2122 § 3, 1996).
