POLICE CORPS PROGRAM

2.67.010 Purpose.
The general purpose of this chapter is:
A. To authorize participation of the City of Mountlake Terrace as a sponsoring agency for Police Corps candidates; and
B. To provide for integration of the Police Corps Program into existing civil service and hiring programs. (Ord. 2215 § 1, 1999).
2.67.020 Police Corp authorized.
The City of Mountlake Terrace hereby authorizes the participation in the Washington Police Corps Program, subject to the terms and conditions of the Police Corps Program. The City Manager, or his/her designee, is authorized to enter into contracts necessary for the implementation of the Police Corps Program and sponsorship of Police Corps candidates. (Ord. 2215 § 2, 1999).
2.67.030 Civil service integration.
A. Candidates for the Police Corps Program, sponsored by the City of Mountlake Terrace, shall be reviewed and approved by the Civil Service Commission and the City Manager, or his/her designee, prior to sponsorship.
B. Police Corps candidates shall be subject to all requirements of employment qualification, including, but not limited to, background testing, polygraph, and other evaluations (collectively, “testing”). Testing may be employed both prior to sponsorship and following completion of the program.
C. Following approval of sponsorship by the Civil Service Commission and the appointing authority, a candidate may be sponsored by the City of Mountlake Terrace. Upon successful graduation from the Police Corps, certification by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission, and completion of all testing, the candidate shall be employed as a probationary employee of the City of Mountlake Terrace subject to 42 U.S.C. Section 14096 and regulations applicable to all law enforcement officers of the City of Mountlake Terrace. (Ord. 2215 § 3, 1999).
2.67.040 Ratification and confirmation.
All acts consistent with and prior to the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter are hereby ratified and confirmed. (Ord. 2215 § 4, 1999).
