2.28.010 Composition.
A. The police department of the city shall include the following ranks and/or positions:
1. Chief of police;
2. Assistant chief of police;
3. Patrolman; and
4. Part-time patrolman.
B. Each person employed by the city in the police department shall be appointed to one of the positions designated in subsection A of this section. All prior appointments to such positions are confirmed. (Ord. 388 § 1, 1970)
2.28.020 Provisional appointments.
OMC 2.28.010 shall not prevent the police chief or mayor of the city from making original appointments provisional for a trial period of not to exceed one year. (Ord. 649 § 1, 1984; Ord. 388 § 2, 1970)
2.28.030 Civil service.
There is established civil service for the police department and Chapter 41.12 RCW and all pertinent sections relative thereto are put into effect except that notwithstanding the provisions thereof in the employment, advancement and filling of vacancies in the department, the commission shall certify to the appointing power the names of the three persons highest on the eligible list for the class (or the list held appropriate for such class) to which the vacant position has been allocated, and who are willing to accept such employment. 2.28.040 Service of legal process – Fees.
A. The police department of the city shall, upon request, serve legal process, including court order and other process issued pursuant to Chapter 26.50 RCW, within the city limits of the city and upon the residents of the city.
B. A fee for the service of court orders will be charged as established by ordinance. (Ord. 762 § 16, 1992; Ord. 705 § 16, 1988; Ord. 656, 1985)
