13.16.010 Required – Exception.
All water of the water department of the city shall be sold by use of a water meter that measures the amount of water used by a consumer; except, water used or consumed by the city in its governmental capacity need not be metered. [Ord. 442 §1, 1970].
13.16.020 Required – Accuracy.
No water shall be used or consumed unless through use of a water meter that is in good operating condition and correctly measures the water, except water used by the city. [Ord. 333 §2, 1956].
13.16.030 Application for service.
No person, firm or corporation shall use or receive water from the water department of the city unless there is an installed water meter that measures the amount of water used, and if there is no water meter, then the person, firm or corporation that desires water connection shall make written application for the installation of a water service to a water main, including a water meter. Such application shall be made to the city clerk-treasurer on a form furnished by the city, and the cost of making such installation shall be paid to the city clerk-treasurer before water is released for the use of the applicant. 13.16.040 Using water in excess of meter.
The water department will not install a water meter on a service which demands water in excess of the rated capacity of the meter. The water department of the city shall have the right to discontinue water service to any consumer when the demand of the service exceeds the following meter capacities:
A. Three-fourths inch meter, 30 gallons per minute;
B. One inch meter, 50 gallons per minute;
C. One and one-half inch meter, 100 gallons per minute;
D. Two inch meter, 160 gallons per minute;
E. Three inch meter, 300 gallons per minute;
F. Four inch meter, 500 gallons per minute. [Ord. 442 §4, 1970].
13.16.050 Meter size.
All newly installed water meters hereinafter connected to the municipal water supply system shall be five-eighths-inch by three-quarter-inch. For good cause shown, the public works supervisor may authorize the installation of a larger water meter for particular water service connection depending on the needs of the water customer. Any additional cost for a water meter larger than a five-eighths-inch by three-quarter-inch meter shall be paid by the water service customer to the city before the meter is installed. 13.16.060 Separate meters required – Exceptions.
A. Excepting mobile home parks, apartment complexes, motels or commercial buildings under one ownership, and condominiums, each separate building occupied as a dwelling or as a place of business must have a separate water service and water meter, and where the applicant desires to have two or more service pipes on the same premises he shall so state in his application for a water connection, and separate service pipes shall be run with individual stop cocks to each water meter.
B. Each mobile home park, apartment complex, motel or commercial building under one ownership, and each condominium may be served by one water meter. Should any unit or portion of such mobile home park or apartment complex, motel or commercial building be sold, or ownership changed so that more than one ownership is involved therein, then a separate meter shall be installed for each new additional ownership, at the expense of each new owner.
