10.36.010 Authority to close streets.

Whenever the condition of any street, alley, or thoroughfare of the city, either newly or previously constructed, altered, repaired, or improved, or any part thereof, is such that for any reason its use or continued use by vehicles will greatly damage it or will be dangerous to traffic thereon, or when it is being constructed, altered, repaired, improved or maintained in such a manner as to require that such street, alley, or thoroughfare, or any portion thereof be closed to travel by all vehicles or by any class of vehicles for any period of time, the city council may by resolution close such street, alley or thoroughfare to travel by all vehicles or any class of vehicles for a definite period as it shall determine. 10.36.020 Vehicle classification.

Vehicles may be classified according to gross weight, axle weight, height, width, length, braking area, performance, or tire equipment for the purpose of this chapter. (Ord. 1094 § 1, 2009).

10.36.030 Load limit restrictions authorized.

As a seasonal restriction or otherwise the mayor may close or restrict the travel on any city street, alley or thoroughfare of all vehicles whose gross weight (vehicle and load), configuration, number of total tires, or use shall be determined to be detrimental to the streets, alleys and thoroughfares of the city. In such event either a publication of the restriction shall be made as provided in SLMC 10.36.040 or the subject streets shall be posted as provided in SLMC 10.36.050. (Ord. 1094 § 1, 2009).

10.36.040 Street closing notice published.

Before any city street, alley or thoroughfare is closed to all or any class of vehicles, a notice of the date on and after which such street, alley or thoroughfare or any part thereof shall be closed and the definite period of the closing and the nature thereof shall be published in one issue of the official city newspaper. A like notice shall be posted on or before the date of publication in a conspicuous place at each end of the street or way to be closed. No such street, alley or thoroughfare shall be closed sooner than three days after the publication and posting of the notice. (Ord. 1094 § 1, 2009).

10.36.050 Emergency closing notice posted.

In cases of emergency any portion of a city street, alley or thoroughfare may be closed to such use immediately and without publication of notice, by posting a notice thereof at each end of the closed portion of the street or thoroughfare. (Ord. 1094 § 1, 2009).

10.36.060 Penalties for violation.

Any person who uses a public street, alley or thoroughfare or portion thereof duly closed as provided in this chapter shall be deemed to have committed a civil infraction and shall be subject to a C-8 penalty. (Ord. 1094 § 1, 2009).
