BONDS OF OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES

2.12.040 Insurance in lieu of bond.
2.12.010 Bond required.
The following named officers and employees of the city shall, before assuming the duties of their respective offices, give a bond signed by some reputable surety company authorized to transact business in the state or signed by at least two good and sufficient sureties, conditioned upon the faithful discharge of their official duties as provided by law, in the following amounts:
A. City clerk/treasurer, ten thousand dollars;
B. City attorney, ten thousand dollars;
C. Municipal court judge, ten thousand dollars;
D. Chief of police, ten thousand dollars;
E. Assistant chief of police, five thousand dollars;
F. Fire chief, ten thousand dollars. (Ord. 1307 §3, 2015: Ord. 391 §1, 1948)
2.12.020 Approval.
The bonds provided in this chapter shall be approved by the city council and by the city attorney as to form and execution, and after such approval shall be filed with the city clerk/treasurer, except the bond of the city clerk/treasurer which shall be filed with the mayor. (Ord. 391 §2, 1948)
2.12.030 Payment.
After the approval of the bonds, the city shall pay a reasonable premium to the surety company furnishing any of such bonds. (Ord. 391 §3, 1948)
2.12.040 Insurance in lieu of bond.
In lieu of providing a bond to the city, the persons named in Section 2.12.010 may provide proof of insurance covering their activities in an amount acceptable to the city. City employees need not provide a bond if they are covered under the city’s insurance policy or policies. (Ord. 1307 §16, 2015)
