POLICE DEPARTMENT—PENSION BOARD*

1.57.010 Vacancies—How filled.

Whenever an individual holding one of the police representative positions to the police pension board of the city of Yakima; is unable or unwilling to complete his or her term of office, the vacancy so created shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term in the following manner:

A.    Persons eligible to be elected to the vacant position shall be anyone not currently on the police pension board and who is either:

1.    A current city of Yakima police officer;

2.    A retired city of Yakima police officer; or

3.    A clerical worker covered under RCW Chapter 41.20.

B.    A majority vote of the entire membership of the pension board, at any regular meeting will be sufficient to elect such person a member thereof. (Ord. 93-45 § 1, 1993: Ord. B-42 § 1, December 5, 1932).

1.57.015 Election to police pension board—Procedure.

Police representatives to the police pension board shall be elected as provided in RCW 41.20.010. Persons eligible to run for a position shall be those persons listed in YMC 1.57.010(A). Persons eligible to vote in the election shall be all current officers, retired officers, and clerical workers who are covered under either:

1.    RCW Chapter 41.20; or

2.    RCW 41.26.005(1) (LEOFF Plan 1). (Ord. 93-45 § 2, 1993).

1.57.020 Retention and accumulation of service credits toward retirement.

Any member of the fire department of the city of Yakima who has heretofore or who may hereafter transfer his employment to the police department of the city of Yakima may preserve, accumulate and retain service credit for his service in the fire department, and may apply such credit toward his eventual retirement from the police department, subject to any reasonable rules and regulations which may be adopted by the police pension board in furtherance of, and consistent with, applicable state laws.

Any person who has heretofore honorably served in any capacity as an employee of the Yakima police department shall be allowed credit for such service toward retirement from the police department, subject to any reasonable rules and regulations which may be adopted by the police pension board in furtherance of, and consistent with, applicable state laws.
