Registration offices shall be maintained in each of the three fire stations of the fire department of the city and the registration files shall be kept open for the registration of voters at such places between eight a.m. and eight p.m. on all days except Sundays, and at each of said locations the same shall be in the charge of one or more city firemen designated by the chief of the fire department and appointed as a deputy registrar and deputy city clerk for such purpose by the city clerk, without additional salary, and registration of voters shall be permitted in said locations as provided herein and subject to the general supervision of the city clerk.
