VOLUNTEER FIREMEN’S RELIEF AND PENSION FUND*

3.36.010 Conformance with act of 1945.
The city, being duly qualified, now elects to conform with all provisions of an act of the Legislature of the state of Washington approved by the Governor in March of 1945, entitled “An Act – Relating to and creating a fund in the State Treasury to be known as the Volunteer Firemen’s Relief and Pension Fund; defining the terms as used in the act; designating the duties of certain officials; providing for the relief and compensation of volunteer firemen injured in the performance of their duties; providing for the retirement of volunteer firemen on pension when municipalities have elected to make provision therefor; creating a board of trustees in each municipality for the maintenance and distribution of said fund; empowering municipalities to limit the membership of volunteer fire departments; and repealing Chapter 121, Laws of 1935 (Sections 9578-1 to 9578-11, inclusive, of Remington’s Revised Statutes)” in order that the city and members of the regularly organized volunteer fire department maintained therein may participate in the benefits in said act. 3.36.020 Department membership limited.
The membership of the regularly organized volunteer fire department of the city is hereby limited to 20 firemen for each 1,000 population of the city. (Ord. 45 § 2, 1945).
3.36.030 Board of trustees.
Pursuant to the provisions of the act referred to in YMC 3.36.010, there is created and established a board of trustees of the volunteer firemen’s relief and pension fund to be known as the “Yelm board of trustees of the volunteer firemen’s relief and pension fund.” The board shall consist of the mayor, city clerk/treasurer and one councilman of the city, the chief of the organized volunteer fire department of the city and one member of said fire department to be elected annually by the members of the fire department for a term of one year. The board of trustees shall have all the powers and shall perform all the duties conferred and imposed upon it by the provisions of said act. (Ord. 45 § 3, 1945).
