3.270 Appointments.
(1) Except as otherwise specifically provided, appointments to City boards, commissions, and other governmental bodies shall be made by the Mayor at the regular Common Council meeting in May of the year in which the particular term expires. Such appointments shall be confirmed or rejected by the Common Council by the regular Common Council meeting in June. In case of rejection, the Mayor shall nominate another appointee as soon as possible, and submit the same to the Common Council for its consideration.
The terms for members of City boards, commissions, and governmental bodies to which this section applies shall commence at noon on June 1st and terminate at noon on June 1st of the year in which the term expires or until a successor qualifies. Any vacancies shall be filled for the duration of the unexpired term in the manner provided for herein.
Board, commission, and committee appointments shall be for two-year terms unless otherwise specified by statute or ordinance.
The provisions of this section shall apply to the following boards, commissions and governmental bodies, as well as any other governmental bodies specified by the Mayor and Common Council:
(a) Harbor Commission (MMC 3.040).
(b) Repealed by Ord. 20-564.
(c) Repealed by Ord. 16-430.
(d) Rahr-West Art Museum Board (MMC 3.120).
(e) Repealed by Ord. 16-430.
(f) Industrial Development Corporation (MMC 3.140).
(g) Repealed by Ord. 16-430.
(h) Community Development Authority (MMC 3.160).
(i) Repealed by Ord. 21-457.
(j) Committee on Aging (MMC 3.340).
(k) Transit Commission (MMC 3.210).
(l) Zoning Board of Appeals (MMC 15.550).
(m) Building Board of Appeals (MMC 16.050).
(n) Municipal Tree Commission (MMC 3.190).
(2) Should the Mayor’s nominee for any appointment be rejected by the Common Council, the Mayor may designate a person to serve on the respective board, commission or other governmental body until a successor is appointed and approved by the Common Council. However, any appointee who has been disapproved by the Common Council shall not be permitted to continue in office. Should there be no one designated to fill a position for which an appointment has been rejected, that position shall be vacant until a nominee is appointed and qualifies.
