2.20.010 Purpose.

Hi-Desert Water District recognizes the importance of the Internet in communicating with the public about the district and water-related issues.

This policy establishes and provides the framework and guidelines for social media to be used as part of the public information program to communicate with customers and other stakeholders. This policy will provide guidance on district-related blogging and contents of social media sites. This policy applies only to work-related sites and issues and is not meant to infringe upon individual personal interaction or commentary online, outside of the workplace. [Res. 09-21].

2.20.020 Staff responsibilities.

The primary responsibility for information dissemination lies with the general manager and his or her public information officer, who is responsible for maintaining the social media program. [Res. 09-21].

2.20.030 Social media policy.

Hi-Desert Water District will maintain and utilize social media to communicate with customers and other stakeholders as part of the public information program. The public information officer may utilize social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, blog sites, etc.

The public information officer will monitor sites for community feedback.

A. Content should be updated at least on a monthly basis.

B. Information shall be timely and accurate. [Res. 09-21].
