OVERHANGING SIGNS

12.28.020 Inspection and approval.
12.28.010 Suspension.
All business signs, advertising signs, signboards or other signs or devices, whether illuminated or not, over the sidewalk in front of any building or premises must be safely and securely fastened to and suspended from the building, or other supporting structure to which the same are attached, and no post or other structure shall be erected or placed in or upon the sidewalk or street to support any such sign; provided, that nothing in this section shall apply to authorized signs for directing traffic.
All such signs shall be suspended so as to leave a clearance of at least 10 feet perpendicularly above the sidewalk and shall not extend beyond a point six inches inside the outer or curb line of the sidewalk; provided, further, that no such sign shall be suspended at such a height as to interfere with the illumination from street lights erected and maintained by the City of Mt. Shasta. (Ord. 99 § 1, 1937)
12.28.020 Inspection and approval.
It shall be the duty of the City Engineer or Superintendent of Streets to inspect all such signs and determine as to their heights and safety, and no sign suspended over any sidewalk in the City, or any part thereof, shall be lawful until the same has been inspected and approved by the City Engineer or Superintendent of Streets. For inspecting such signs the City Engineer or Superintendent of Streets shall receive a fee of $2.00 to be paid by the owner when application is made for the inspection and approval of his/her sign. 12.28.030 Appearance.
All signs covered by this chapter shall have a neat, sightly appearance and shall not be permitted to become dilapidated or unsightly. (Ord. 99 § 3, 1937)
