HOUSE AND BUILDING NUMBERS

12.32.010 Required – Display.
All buildings shall be numbered. All buildings of every kind or character, situated within the City limits, shall bear and have displayed in a conspicuous place upon the front thereof a designated number, which number or figure shall not be less than three inches in height and shall be securely fastened to the building to which it applies. 12.32.020 System – Alleys and courts.
All numbering of buildings shall be in accordance with the building numbering map, which map was duly and regularly adopted by the City Council on January 8, 1943, filed with the City Clerk and made part hereof by reference.
Where the building or buildings face on an alley or court and no building numbers for the building or buildings appear on the building numbering map, the first building from the street shall bear the same number as if facing on the street, and the second building from the street shall bear the street number followed by the letter “A”; the third building shall bear the street number followed by the letter “B” and so on, using the street number and capital letters alphabetically until all buildings facing alleys or courts are numbered.
Where two buildings are built on one lot the first building shall bear the number as shown on the building numbering map and the second building shall bear the same number followed by the letter “A.” (Ord. 117 § 1, 1943; Ord. 65 § 2, 1925)
12.32.030 Time limit.
All buildings in the City erected prior to the adoption of the ordinance codified in this section shall be provided with the required numbers and figures within a period of 90 days after the ordinance codified in this section becomes effective. All new buildings erected subsequent to the date of the adoption hereof shall be so numbered and the numbers thereto affixed within a period of 90 days next succeeding the completion of any such building. 12.32.040 Failure of owner to provide.
In the event of a failure upon the part of any property owner to properly place and maintain upon the property owned by him suitable numbers as herein provided within the time hereinbefore prescribed, it shall be the duty of the Superintendent of Streets to provide proper numbers and to have the same affixed to such property at the expense of the owner or owners thereof and without demand on or notice to such owner or owners and to collect therefor the sum of $2.50 which shall be a lien upon the real property for which such numbers shall have been provided and which shall be collectible in any court of competent jurisdiction. As a further and concurrent remedy, such sum may be collected with costs by action in the Recorder’s Court of the City, upon complaint filed by the Superintendent of Streets and in the name of the City.
