12.30.010 Definitions.

As used in this chapter, the following terms are defined as indicated:

The term “overnight camping” as used in this chapter shall mean the overnight occupancy by vacationers or visitors on a temporary basis in tents, tent trailers, or recreational vehicles.

The term “RV camping” as used in this chapter shall mean overnight occupancy in a vehicle that is:

(a) Built on a single chassis.

(b) Four hundred square feet or less when measured at the largest horizontal projections.

(c) Self-propelled or designed to be towed.

(d) Designed primarily for use as temporary living quarters for recreational, camping, travel or seasonal use, but never intended as a permanent dwelling.

12.30.020 Overnight and RV camping permitted.

Except where specifically permitted as provided in this chapter, overnight camping and RV camping are prohibited. Overnight camping and RV camping are permitted within town limits, subject to the following regulations. [Ord. 900 § 1 (Exh. A), 2018; Ord. 753 § 1, 2010. Code 1999 § 20-2].

12.30.030 RV camping in designated areas.

RV camping is permitted in those areas designated by the town by specific posted signs, subject to the limitations indicated on such signs as to the duration of such RV camping and other posted regulations. [Ord. 900 § 1 (Exh. A), 2018; Ord. 753 § 1, 2010. Code 1999 § 20-2-1].

12.30.040 RV camping on or adjacent to public right-of-way in residential zones.

RV camping is permitted on or adjacent to the public right-of-way in residential zone districts, provided (a) the RV is located entirely outside the paved or traveled portions of the public right-of-way, (b) the RV does not obstruct the view of vehicular traffic, and (c) the campers have the consent of the owners or renters of the immediately adjacent residential lot(s). Such RV camping shall be limited to no more than 14 nights in a 90-day period of time. [Ord. 900 § 1 (Exh. A), 2018; Ord. 753 § 1, 2010. Code 1999 § 20-2-2].

12.30.050 RV camping in commercial parking lots open to the public.

RV camping in parking lots associated with commercial uses that are open to the public is permitted, provided the owner or lessor of the commercial use consents to such RV camping. Such RV camping shall be limited to no more than three consecutive nights. The three-night time limit shall not apply to commercial campgrounds. [Ord. 900 § 1 (Exh. A), 2018; Ord. 753 § 1, 2010. 12.30.060 Overnight camping.

Overnight camping is permitted on private property in residential zone districts with the consent of the owner or renter of the property, and in commercial campgrounds. Such camping shall be limited to no more than 14 nights in a 90-day period of time. The 14-night time limit shall not apply to commercial campgrounds. [Ord. 900 § 1 (Exh. 12.30.070 Property owner camping under exceptional circumstances.

Upon the destruction or temporary uninhabitability of a residential structure, or such other exceptional circumstances deemed appropriate by the town manager, the town manager may issue a permit allowing the owner of the property to overnight or RV camp on the property for such period of time as the town manager, in the reasonable exercise of his discretion, deems appropriate. 12.30.080 Violations and penalties.
