12.25.010 Street arrangement.

(a) As used in this chapter, the word “street” includes avenues, roads, courts, drives, places, boulevards, lanes, or any other term used to describe a public way.

(b) Agate Avenue shall constitute the base line for all numbering on the streets running north and south, and Zero Street shall constitute the base line for all numbering on the streets running east and west.

(c) All those portions of streets extending east from Zero Street shall hereafter bear the prefix East.

(d) All those portions of streets extending south from Agate Avenue shall hereafter bear the prefix South.

(e) All those portions of streets extending west from Zero Street shall hereafter bear the prefix West.

(f) All those portions of streets extending north from Agate Avenue shall hereafter bear no prefix.

(g) Streets which are a continuation of streets which intersect the base line shall carry the appropriate prefix.

(h) Streets which are not a continuation of streets which intersect the base line shall not carry a prefix except as hereinafter provided.

(i) The continuation of the blocks for addressing purposes will be 400 feet east to west and 200 feet north to south. The width of the streets shall not be included in the distance. [Amended during 2011 recodification; Ord. 300, 1978. Code 1999 § 14-3-1].

12.25.020 Structure numbers.

The town clerk of the town of Granby is hereby directed to prepare and maintain a uniform system of street addresses to include the town of Granby and an area reasonably adjacent to the town of Granby in which structures are located. All structures facing upon any street shall be assigned a number by the town clerk beginning at the base line streets with the number 1 and, wherever practical, three numbers shall be assigned to each 25 feet frontage on a street as alternatives. Structures fronting streets from the west and from the north shall bear odd numbers in their last figure, and structures fronting streets from the east and from the south shall bear even numbers in their last figure. Diagonal and curvilineal streets shall be numbered in a manner according to their predominate line of direction, the entire length of the street considered. Circle or curve streets extending or departing at less than a right angle direction from another street and returning to the same street shall be treated as if they ran parallel to that street. 12.25.030 Style of numbering of structures.

The number as provided by this chapter and the town clerk shall be conspicuously placed on all structures now and hereafter erected. Structures shall be addressed off of the street adjacent to the front of said structures. The numbers, placed on structures to identify the address of said structure, shall be no less than two and one-half inches in height and shall contrast in color with the surface upon which the numbers are affixed. 12.25.040 Duty to affix numbers.

If the owner or lessee of any building shall fail, refuse or neglect to place the number thereon, or replace it when necessary, the town clerk may cause a notice to be personally served upon such owner or lessee or mailed by certified mail to his last known address, ordering him to place or replace the number. Such owner or lessee shall comply with such notice within 10 days from the date of service. [Amended during 2011 recodification. Code 1999 § 14-3-5].

12.25.050 Building permit not issued.

No building permit shall be issued for a new structure until a street number assignment has been made by the town clerk. [Amended during 2011 recodification. Code 1999 § 14‑3‑6].

12.25.060 Appeals.

The majority of the property owners in any block in the town of Granby may appeal in writing the numbering assigned by the town clerk to the board of trustees and said board shall by resolution determine the correct numbering of any such block. 12.25.070 Violation and penalty.
