COMPRESSION BRAKES PROHIBITION

10.28.010 Definitions.
“Compression brakes” means the use of the engine and transmission to retard the forward motion of a motor vehicle by compression of the engine. “Compression brakes” are also sometimes referred to as “jake brakes.” (Ord. 756 § 1 (part), 2004)
10.28.020 Prohibited.
No person shall use motor vehicle brakes within the city limits of the city of Brewster that are compression brakes, engine brakes, or any other mechanical device intended to slow a vehicle that is attached to the engine, transmission, or exhaust system of the motor vehicle or any unit or part thereof. 10.28.030 Exception.
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to government-authorized fire and emergency vehicles when responding to emergencies. (Ord. 756 § 1 (part), 2004)
10.28.040 Signage.
The city superintendent is authorized and directed to post appropriate signage consistent with the provisions of this chapter. (Ord. 756 § 1 (part), 2004)
10.28.050 Violation—Penalty.
Violation of this chapter shall be deemed a traffic infraction punishable by a maximum monetary penalty of two hundred fifty dollars per violation. (Ord. 756 § 1 (part), 2004)
