DESTRUCTION OF ABANDONED PROPERTY AND UNNEEDED EVIDENCE

The chief of police shall from time to time as he deems necessary prepare a list of all personal property that has come into his possession through the exercise of his police powers that are no longer needed for criminal prosecution and are either required by law to be destroyed or are contraband or have been abandoned or lost and are unclaimed. (Ord. 1050 § 1, 1983).
2.88.020 Council review and authorization of destruction.
A list of the property referred to in BMC 2.88.010 shall be submitted to the council and the council shall authorize the chief of police to destroy the property if the council finds by majority vote that the property is of no significant value, or of no use to the city, or contraband, or property the owner to which cannot be located; provided, however, this chapter shall not apply to motor vehicles, or any other property, the disposal of which is governed by state statute.
