16-20-010 RM multi-dwelling unit residential district established.
The RM multi-dwelling unit residential district is established to provide high density multi-dwelling units in close proximity to downtown major activity centers and transportation routes. The intent of this district is to permit the transition of single dwellings to multi-dwellings where the full component of public and private services are readily available; to ensure adequate off-street parking, bulk requirements, open space and buffering of single dwelling so as to retain the high densities of development. Any multi-dwelling unit building that disturbs the quality and character of the neighborhood will be prohibited. (Ord. 2286 § 9.0, 1982)

Single detached dwellings
Townhouses

Awnings
Barbecue equipment
Canopies
Carports
Domestic pets
Fallout shelters
Fences as permitted in Chapter 16-68
Garages
Gardens
Home occupations as permitted in Chapter 16-76
Parking as permitted in Chapter 16-72
Playhouses
Recreation equipment
Signs as permitted in Chapter 16-64
Statuary
Storage sheds, floor area not to exceed one hundred (100) square feet
Swimming pools as permitted in Chapter 16-68
Seasonal and temporary uses as permitted in Chapter 16-80
Trellises

16-20-040 Permitted special uses.
In the RM district, the following uses are conditional on the approval of the plan commission and the city council. See Sections 16-04-310 through 1604-370 of this code for further information.
A. Churches and related religious institutions;
B. Governmental facilities including, but not limited to, the following uses:
1. Community terminals,
2. Cultural centers,
3. Fire stations,
4. Police stations,
5. Recreation centers,
6. Schools,
7. Shelter care homes as permitted in Chapter 16-88;
C. Planned unit developments as permitted in Chapter 16-56;
D. Hospices for persons with contagious diseases;

16-20-060 Site, structure and bulk requirements for accessory uses.
Site, structure and bulk requirements for accessory uses in the RM district are as follows:

B. No accessory building or structure shall be located within ten feet of a principal building, nor shall it be located within five feet of another accessory building or structure.
C. No accessory building or structure shall be closer to any street adjoining a zoning lot that is the principal building on the same lot.
D. No accessory building or structure shall exceed the height of the principal building on the lot, nor in any case shall any building accessory to a residence exceed fifteen (15) feet in height. (Ord. 2286 § 9.5, 1982)
